This is super delayed, but I saw two laparoscopic cholecystectomies and one total knee replacement. They were so cool! A laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) through the abdomen (laparo-) using a camera (-scopy) to see inside the abdomen to do the surgery. They took the gallbladder out through the belly button! I never would have thought they’d do that. But it was really amazing to see everything the surgeon did. The circulating nurse let me play with the first gallbladder after the surgery! It was awesome. I felt all the gallstones in it. I thought the total knee replacement was cool too, it was just louder and smellier. That surgery seemed more fun for the surgeon.
I’m not even doing my experience justice by this post.. let’s just say I am re-toying with the idea of being an OR nurse.
